SETTS Staff Development

Approximately 20 workshops are presented yearly both at the SELPA level and within districts.

As the group has become more recognized, the partnership with professional and state organizations, as well as with manufacturers of AT, the SETTS sphere of influence is rapidly expanding. This year, when the Computer Using Educators (CUE) organization determined a need for the first special education strand within their conference offering, they requested that members of the SETTS team provide all of those presentations. In March 2004, the following workshops were presented in Palm Springs:

  • Career Exploration for Struggling Students
  • Improving Student Writing Through Assistive Technology
  • Assistive Technology: What and Why
  • Assistive Technology: A Key to Unlocking the Standards
  • Making Movies in the Special Education Classroom
  • Technology in the Moderate-Severe Special Education Classroom
  • Classroom Applications of Microsoft Office
  • Discover the Accessibility Features Built into Your Computer
  • Assistive Technology Success Stories

In November, 2004, Don Johnston, Inc. donated over $25,000 worth of software to the computer lab at the West End Education Support Center in Rancho Cucamonga. Local districts bring teachers to workshops provided by SETTS team members to instruct them on using software to enhance learning and to meet the needs of students with learning disabilities.
