Introducing: Amy Duncan

 

Amy Duncan

 

Amy has been an educator for 34 years, working with students with special needs as a classroom teacher for Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools and since 1980 as a Program Specialist with the West End SELPA of San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools. Within that role, she provides consultation and support services to districts in developing quality special education instruction for students with diverse learning needs. Amy received her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California at Santa Barbara and Master of Arts in Special Education from California State University, Los Angeles.

Amy has presented workshops both locally and nationally that focus on effective practice for students with disabilities including inclusive environments, assistive technology innovations, developing effective strategies for students with autism and behavior disorders, developing positive classroom environments. Her work has been dedicated to effective professional collaboration and effective team structures that encourage increased student performance. Developer of the Collaborative IEP Process, she provides training in productive meeting structures, facilitation and Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Cognitive Coaching. She has co-authored two publications, one focusing on professional collaboration in inclusive classrooms and the other effective strategies for students with severe behavioral issues. She serves as adjunct faculty for California State University, San Bernardino and Claremont Graduate University. She is a Training Associate for Cognitive Coaching.
